Bighorn campground

Bighorn campground, 63.6 miles, US180W to Glenwood, improved site (toilet, tables, fire rings)

Google Maps view

Bighorn is another small campground (two tables near the entrance, four more in the back, closer to toilet), just outside of Glenwood and walking distance to the Trading Post (a little expensive, but no more than any other small town). Best site is to the left of the toilet and along the ravine. It used to have one of those free-standing grills, but as of 9/26/2021, it had disappeared.

Settling in for the night

Bighorn is also walking distance to the Game & Fish Dept. Hatchery on Catwalk Road; the Catwalk Recreation Area is about five miles further (fee area). Whitewater Creek runs through the middle of Glenwood, and a small ravine borders the back of the campground.

It's close to the highway so there is some road noise, but a greater issue are pigs. Last time I stayed there, a cyclist had set up camp next to me and neglected to properly store his groceries. Javelina found them later that night. Some tried to walk in on me as I sat around the campfire, but I ran 'em off.
